YOU ARE NOT ALONE (YANA) – Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Program
“Our program ensures our seniors and people with disabilities receive daily telephone calls and a visit from a YANA Volunteer. If you have a loved one, relative, or friend who would like to enroll in our YANA program, please call (281) 341-YANA (9262).”
How does YANA Work: Must Live in Fort Bend County; Must be 65 or above or have a disability; Calls can be made daily, at an agreed time.
If a participant does not answer the phone after several attempts are made to reach them, a series of steps follow to assure their safety and well-being.
YANA Volunteers can change Light bulbs and air filters for residents and Twice a year they will assist in changing batteries in smoke detectors.
How to Volunteer:
- Must be a graduate of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Citizen Police Academy or other Fort Bend County area CPA
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legal alien who has applied for citizenship
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and auto insurance
- Good moral character; Conviction of a felony is disqualifying
- Physically and emotionally able to perform the duties of the position
- Must pass a complete background check
- Agree to abide by all department and program rules and
- Complete the YANA Training course.
